About Johnethel School

Excellence in Education Since 2016

Our Story

Johnethel School Building

On August 3rd, 2016, Johnethel School opened its doors in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, with a bold vision: to redefine what a Nigerian school could be. What began as a passionate commitment to quality education has grown into a thriving community of over 300 students, dedicated educators, and families who believe their children deserve more.

From the very beginning, we refused to settle for the ordinary. We developed our own school-branded learning manuals for 14 subjects across our primary section — thoughtfully designed around the NERDC new curriculum, packed with rich resources, and built to function as both textbook and notebook, giving every pupil a complete, self-contained learning experience in their hands. Our secondary school students receive the same quality, with their materials loaded as softcopy onto personal laptops — making Johnethel one of the few schools in the region where digital learning is not an afterthought but a core part of daily education.

Every classroom, from Nursery to Secondary, is equipped with a flatscreen TV to make lessons vivid, engaging, and interactive. We use the Jolly Phonics approach in our early years to build strong literacy foundations, and we intentionally blend the British curriculum with the NERDC curriculum to give our students a broader, richer academic experience than either alone can offer.

But academics is only part of who we are. We believe in the total child. Our pupils develop real-world skills through practical vocational training — from bag making to hair making — introduced as early as Year 5. We run an Abacus programme to sharpen mental arithmetic. We nurture creativity through the arts, build resilience through sports and extracurricular activities, and ground every child in strong moral and spiritual values.

Our environment is intentionally serene and purpose-built for learning, and we take the safety of every child seriously — with clear, structured security protocols governing how students are received and released each day, giving parents genuine peace of mind.

At Johnethel School, we are not just educating children. We are raising innovators, leaders, and complete human beings — and we have been doing it with excellence since 2016.

🎯

Our Mission

Grooming Future Leaders for Excellence with sound Academic and high moral standards for the best society.

Our Vision

To produce Youngsters for societal transformation through world class Education.

Our Educational Philosophy

At Johnethel School, we believe that true education goes beyond memorization and test scores. Our approach is built on seven interconnected pillars that work together to develop the whole child—intellectually, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.

🎓

Academic Excellence

We don't just teach subjects—we cultivate a genuine love for learning. Our curriculum combines the richness of the British system with Nigeria's NERDC framework, delivering a world-class education rooted in local relevance. We use Jolly Phonics in our early years to build strong literacy foundations, and our blended approach ensures students gain both international academic standards and deep understanding of their Nigerian context.

Teachers at Johnethel are not just instructors—they are mentors who inspire students to ask questions, explore ideas, and push beyond their perceived limits. Small class sizes (averaging 20 students) enable personalized attention, differentiated instruction, and continuous progress tracking. Every child's learning journey is monitored, supported, and celebrated.

  • Blended British and NERDC curriculum for global-local balance
  • Jolly Phonics for strong early literacy foundations
  • Small class sizes (average 20 students) for personalized attention
  • Differentiated instruction to meet individual learning needs
  • Continuous assessments and progress tracking

Integrated Learning Resources

At Johnethel, we've revolutionized how students learn. Our custom-designed school-branded manuals for 14 subjects across primary and secondary levels are built specifically to align with our scheme of work—meaning no more hunting for textbooks that don't match what we're teaching, no more scrambling to supplement materials, and no more wasted instructional time.

These manuals function as both textbook and notebook in one integrated resource, eliminating the need for students to spend hours copying notes from the board. Teachers go straight to explanation, discussion, and deeper engagement—then assign classwork and homework directly in the manual. This saves valuable class time and ensures every minute is spent on actual learning, not transcription.

Our secondary students receive their materials digitally on personal laptops, carrying their entire library in one device. Every classroom from Nursery to Secondary is equipped with flatscreen TVs that bring lessons to life with visuals, videos, and interactive content. The result? Learning that is faster, deeper, and far more engaging than traditional methods.

  • Custom school manuals for 14 subjects aligned perfectly with scheme of work
  • Integrated textbook-notebook design eliminates note-copying
  • Teachers focus on explanation and engagement, not board writing
  • Secondary materials delivered digitally on personal laptops
  • Flatscreen TVs in every classroom from Nursery to Secondary
  • Maximum instructional time dedicated to actual learning

Character & Integrity

Character education is woven into every aspect of school life at Johnethel. We believe that academic success without strong moral foundations is incomplete. Our students learn the importance of honesty, respect, responsibility, and compassion through daily practice, not just lessons.

We maintain a dedicated counseling office with trained counselors who work alongside teachers to address the emotional and behavioral needs of every child. Students engage in service learning, peer mentoring through our prefect system (class prefects, book prefects, timekeepers), and ethical decision-making exercises. They learn to navigate complex moral situations, stand up for what's right, and treat others with dignity regardless of differences.

  • Dedicated counseling office and trained counselors
  • Student leadership roles: class prefects, book prefects, timekeepers
  • Service learning integrated into the curriculum
  • Strong moral and spiritual foundation across all activities
  • Daily character education through practice, not just theory

Practical Skills & Real-World Readiness

Education at Johnethel extends far beyond textbooks. We believe every child should graduate not just with certificates, but with real, marketable skills that open doors in the real world. From Year 5 through Secondary, students receive hands-on vocational training in our Practical Vocational Centre—learning bag making, hair styling, and other crafts that develop entrepreneurial mindsets and practical competence.

We run an Abacus programme to sharpen mental arithmetic and cognitive development, giving students calculation speed and confidence that lasts a lifetime. Our secondary students achieve full digital literacy through daily use of personal laptops loaded with their learning materials, while even our youngest learners engage with technology through classroom flatscreens. When our students leave Johnethel, they're not just academically prepared—they're equipped with the practical intelligence to thrive in any environment.

  • Practical Vocational Centre with training in bag making, hair styling, and crafts
  • Abacus programme for mental arithmetic and cognitive development
  • Full digital literacy: laptops for secondary students, flatscreens in every class

Leadership Development

Every child has leadership potential. We cultivate this through opportunities to take initiative, make decisions, and inspire others. Our student leadership structure includes class prefects, book prefects, and timekeepers—giving students early experience in responsibility, accountability, and service.

Students learn to communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, organize their peers, and lead by example. These aren't just titles—they're training grounds for future leaders who will shape their communities and our nation. As we continue to expand our prefectship system, students at every level learn that leadership is not about authority but about service and influence.

  • Student leadership roles from primary through secondary
  • Class prefects, book prefects, and timekeepers in every class
  • Opportunities to lead assemblies and school activities
  • Mentorship and responsibility-building experiences
  • Expanding prefectship system fostering servant leadership

Our dedicated counseling office provides professional support for students navigating academic pressures, social challenges, or personal struggles. We organize regular sporting events, including our growing inter-house sports competition, giving students outlets for physical fitness and healthy competition. Students express themselves through drama productions, dance performances, and creative showcases—especially during our vibrant end-of-term celebrations where every talent is celebrated.

Our serene, purpose-built campus creates a peaceful learning environment, and our strict security protocols ensure every parent has peace of mind knowing their child is safe, cared for, and thriving.
